Andrea Muendelein is researcher and a visual artist working with
photography. She graduated with a PhD in Fine Art Photography from
Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London in 2019. Her
practice-based research examines how the notion of the stranger can
be understood through photography, challenging both conventional
understandings of the stranger and the idea of photographic image as
referential, punctual certainty.
Andrea has participated in artist residencies, symposia and conferences
such as ‘Cill Rialaig’, Ireland, ‘Nida Art Colony’, Lithuania, ‘Integrity &
Ethics in Arts Research’ at Chelsea College of Art and ‘Light | Sensitive
| Material’ at the University of West London. Her work has been shown
in exhibitions such as ‘Re-Stage’, Davies Street Gallery and ‘Minor
Revisions’ at Tenderpixel Gallery in London. Recent shows include
Dimbola Museum, Isle of Wight and Exp.’20 at the Institut d”Estudis
Fotografics de Catalunya, Barcelona. She is an Associate Lecturer and a
Student Mentor at the University of the Arts.
